Family transforms.
SVS Cares is a 501(c)(3) family-owned nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the health, stability, and quality of life of individuals and families experiencing hardship throughout Kern County. Founded on the belief that every person deserves dignity, compassion, and hope, SVS Cares exists to remove barriers that prevent people from achieving healthier and more stable lives.
Our mission is to walk alongside individuals experiencing homelessness, housing instability, food insecurity, and financial hardship by providing practical support, compassionate outreach, and meaningful connections to community resources. We recognize that health begins long before someone enters a doctor's office. Access to nutritious food, stable living conditions, transportation, and supportive relationships all play a critical role in overall health and wellness.
SVS Cares operates a Choice-Based Food Access Program that provides individuals and families with the opportunity to select foods that best meet their household needs while preserving dignity and reducing waste. Beyond food access, our organization serves as a trusted community connector, linking participants with housing resources, healthcare information, public benefits, hygiene supplies, and other supportive services through strong partnerships across Kern County.
Our programs primarily serve low-income families, Medi-Cal beneficiaries, seniors, veterans, individuals experiencing homelessness or housing instability, and residents facing barriers that place their health and well-being at risk. Through consistent outreach, volunteer engagement, and collaborative partnerships, SVS Cares addresses the social determinants of health while creating opportunities for individuals and families to move from crisis toward stability.
By meeting immediate needs and building trusted relationships, SVS Cares is helping create healthier communities where every individual has the opportunity to thrive.
